MaMaWriMo

Busy waterfall within walking distance of the Bed & Breakfast.

I belong to a Facebook group of mothers who are also writers, and they celebrate “Mama” WriMo every August in place of November’s NaNoWriMo. I think this concept is brilliant and, even though August isn’t the best time for me to do a lot of writing (it’s lesson-planning, back-to-school month), I was able to sneak away on what I’m calling my first annual MaMaWriMo Getaway Weekend. It was fabulous! I enjoyed my first ever Bed & Breakfast stay at this cozy place located right along the St. Croix River at the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. A friend met me and stayed there as well and we explored waterfalls and a winery, and a few cute little towns. Best of all, I had uninterrupted time to write!

The B & B had lots of old stained glass and historic decor. It was a neat place to explore!

All this month, I’d been feeling a bit stressed. I think it was my mind’s subconscious awareness that life was about to pick up the pace again with my teaching semester starting this coming week and my kids also starting school over the next couple weeks (the littlest has a later start date for 4-year-old Kindergarten). This is also the month the garden goes crazy, and I occasionally get overwhelmed thinking that I need to process every single vegetable into something delectable before it goes bad.

Taking a weekend away to destress, write, and have some time all to myself was precious. I managed to add a little over 8,000 words to my WIP. I feel rejuvenated and ready for the busy fun of autumn. Best of all, my husband says I should do it again next year! 🙌
