Cattail Dreams

Borrow the wind and toss its worries
furrow under marshmallow clouds
tomorrow daylight moves a mountain
stow thoughts under nighttime's shrouds

Ride the wind through the cattails
wayside thimbles lost to the blue
guide the daydreamer we once knew
night's rich tide enveloping you

I wrote this poem for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt from the Skeptic’s Kaddish. This week’s prompt was from Jennifer, who asks us to do the following:

“As days grow shorter in the northern hemisphere, I find myself going to bed a bit earlier and rising a bit later. More time for dreaming! This week’s prompt is to write a “lento” on the topic of dreams. This could be about dreams themselves, the act of dreaming, the dreamer or a dreamlike quality.”

Jennifer also suggested Langston Hughes “Dreams” for inspiration, which is one of my favorites, so I’ll link it here, too.
