Ephemeral Waves

grains of time, like sand,
wash away, drawn back by tide
hands cup pooled water
that slips through our fingertips
effervescent, ephemeral

Time always feels so rushed at the start of each new school year. It seems that no matter how much time I put into my classes over the summer to hopefully ease the transition to the fall semester, there’s always more to do. To help, I make a list of the priorities and check them off one at a time. I also have a list labeled “nice to do” for things that aren’t necessary but that I might have the time for (haha), like switching out reading assignments for different topics, making an online course layout look snazzier using design tools, or revising an assignment I no longer love. There will never be time for everything I hope to accomplish, so it’s also important to simply breathe and imagine I’m watching the waves drifting out to sea.
