Free Ride

one,
two, three:
count us in,
we are home free!
we'll search aboveground
and underneath the sea,
navigating dark trenches
and the aurora's vibrant wings,
riding water vapor, listening...
"one, two, three: count us in, we are home free!"

I wrote this poem for the We’ave Written Weekly prompt #135 at the Skeptic’s Kaddish. This week’s prompt was provided by Sarah Whiley, who asks us to follow these guidelines:

Form: Dectina Refrain

Theme: ‘free’ or any variation of this word

Dectina refrain

Syllabic: Ten lines – 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 syllables

Refrain: The 10th line is comprised of the first four lines all together as one stand alone line in quotation marks.

This form is new to me, but I had fun trying to weave the elements together. Another thing I’m new to is the writing community on Bluesky.     1. Yay! I will look for Path2pub there! I’m having a lot of fun on Bluesky; I found literary mags to submit to and a bunch of interesting people to follow. I could never manage to get the hang of Twitter, so I’m glad I tried something new 📚🩵
