Contentment is a forested path,
its exposed roots grounding my soul,
its slivered sunlight pointing home.
Onward is the way we'll roll,
the evergreen boughs painting peace,
and us ensconced in cozy fleece.
The pathway ripples with leftover leaves,
the comfort of dirt packed under feet,
the rest after journey, a welcome night's sleep.
I wrote this poem for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #152, provided by Anupama, who asks us to do the following:
- Challenge: Reimagine emotions as objects;
- What if feelings took shape? Anger could be a blade, sharp and biting. Loneliness might be an echo in an empty room;
- Poetic form: Any;
- Length: No more than 12 lines.
Life has been a bit chaotic lately, so it’s been almost a month since I’ve been able to join in the W3 challenge. I’m grateful to have Spring Break this week and to have a little free time to dedicate to writing again. This challenge was so fascinating, too. Are there places or objects you associate with contentment?

I love the way you juxtaposed nature and contentment. One so concrete and the other so fluid, yet together….

I toyed with this emotion (one of my favorite – much more sustainable than joy). Your poem is perfection!!

Yes, I think I have been content for much longer periods than I’ve been joyful; it seems like the latter requires more active energy, though both are good paces to be. ❤️

This brings smiles, which is what contentment means. (K)

Sarah, your imagery is so soothing, and I love how the path itself becomes a source of comfort. It makes me want to take a long walk and just be!
Much love,
David
