The horse trampled his water dish leaving beads of shimmering gems where shimmied the rainbow fish slithering through tall iris stems, making his way uphill: his wish to see his favored ocean chums he caught a ride on a floating dlish covered with sweet apple pie crumbs it flung him with a great swish across miles of echoing drums and he landed with a splashy splish on an ancient orca's rimey gums
Welcome to my nonsense poem and new interest in writing bizarre fantasy staring fish of various sorts. 😆 I wrote this poem for this week’s Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #67, hosted by David of the Skeptic’s Kaddish. Lesley provided us with this wonderful prompt for the week:
- Write a nonsense poem with at least one invented word of your own.
- For inspiration, click to read ’10 of the Best Nonsense Poems in English Literature’
I doubt I’ve invented “splish” or “rimey”, though WordPress and Google apparently loathe both of these words judging by their disapproving little red underlines. But I think I made up “dlish”; or, at least, there is no English meaning for this word. I picture it as a magical flying dish that carries sustenance while transporting a tiny traveler, but you are welcome to imagine what you like.

I actually love this. Am I very far off if it reminds of the Jabberwocky?

Hah, it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. 😬 To me, it sounds kinda like “delish”.
