I wrote this cento for this week’s Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt. This week, Dawn provided the prompt and asked us to write on the theme of love. Here’s a bit more from the prompt itself about a cento:

Essentially, a cento is composed of lines of poetry from other poets’ works. For this prompt, please weave together as many lines of poetry from other people’s poems (of your choice) as you’d like. Make sure to note the source poems for the lines you incorporate into your cento!

This was a fun one to write and definitely a challenge to get the different poems to work smoothly together. As a result, I’m just making the deadline for this post. 😀

  1. Sarah this one is a delight! You’ve used so many diverse poems and poets – everything from song lyrics to Shakespeare and modern poets, poets foreign and domestic! A really wonderful compilation! And this poem does speak of a wonderful love!

    1. Thank you! It was exciting to see what sort of variety I could pull in there and if I really could transition from the Smashing Pumpkins to Shakespeare. It’s possible apparently. 😂🥰

I know, right, Sarah? It’s really difficult to get it just right!

I just love how you bring together the

    river of prose

    and the

running brook that sings its melody to the night

together into this piece… it’s simply magical!
