The escape to tranquility,
to waters rushing and still,
to the calm of space
where water meets sky:
the unspoken whisper
of past and future
blurred into one present.
Alive in tree roots,
polished rocks
and wrinkled pine needles,
the landscape revitalizes
dead souls,
calls home life's warmth,
and echoes a hope
that reverberates
under my rib cage.
I wrote this poem for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #167. This week’s prompt was provided by Marion, who asks us to do the following:
Inspired by the image of a field of sunflowers in the poem “Fields Will Nod”, we turn our gaze outward—to scapes. Your scape might be a landscape, seascape, cityscape, dreamscape—any view that stirs something in you.
It could be drawn from memory or daily life, from a photograph or a painting, from what still stands or what’s long gone.
Write in any form that helps you say what you need to say. Somewhere in your piece, be sure to include the word scape.

Sarah, I found your poem to be a lovely meditation on nature’s power to heal and awaken ❤️

A beautiful poem about the rejuvenating powers of nature. Great contrasts – rushing/still, past/future, polished/wrinkled, dead/life – which give so much depth to it (no pun intended!).
‘the unspoken whisper
of past and future
blurred into one present’ – I particularly love these lines, where nature takes us to a place of tranquility.
I also love the title ❤️

Sarah, this piece feels like a deep, quiet breath. The way the landscape seems to pulse with memory and presence makes it especially moving to me.
