Disgruntled

If "incompetent" were a person's face,
his would fit the dictionary's place:
A walking, talking complete disaster,
a lunatic, clown, and flailing disgrace.

Pulling the circus strings, this ringmaster:
the opposite of an intelligent forecaster,
whining like a toddler and making up lies,
his head is an empty soda canister.

Everyone blocks out his obnoxious cries,
except for the ones with planks in their eyes:
for they worship money and idiocy
over anything truly valued in the skies. 

The world's flipped upside-down with no dignity:
we can thank imbeciles like him for this lunacy.
Though we'll hold hope for those with grace,
we need a change rather immediately.

I wrote this poem for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #223, which asks us to do the following:

This week, your challenge is to write a funny roast or a strong complaint about a government leader or another person who has power.

Your poem should use a form called an interlocking rubaiyat.

Here is how the form works:

  • Write between 4 and 8 stanzas.
  • Each stanza has 4 lines.
  • Each line should have 8 syllables.
  • The rhymes link one stanza to the next.

The rhyme pattern looks like this: AABA / BBCB / CCDC / DDED
