Rain Dance

in one moment, the earth becomes
beauty in place of pain, levity
in place of rain, heartbeat scattered
across a blood-red sky. Life succumbs
to the dance of earth's frail gravity,
the freedom of loose-limbed revelry,
the earthquake's reign that shattered
our peace, the touch of rain now free

This poem was written for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt. This week’s prompt is from Kerfe who asks us to do the following:

  • Thematic (required): Write a poem inspired by-
    1. A song about dancing, or-
    2. A song you like to dance to;
  • FormΒ (required):Β β€œSan san”.
    • TheΒ β€œsan san” poetic form has three requirements:
      • Eight lines;
      • Rhyming:Β a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d;
      • Repetition:Β Three terms or images in the verse must be repeated 3x each.

Of course, there is a Young the Giant song for this prompt! Everyone’s dancing like they’ve never seen the rain… It’s impossible to play this song without dancing, even when you’re having a bad day. In fact, I find it’s when I’m feeling the most conflicted, stressed, or down that I most need a song that gets me dancing. Keep dancing, everyone ❀️

  1. Gosh, Sarah… Your imagery is really vivid, particularly in the depiction of the transformation from pain to beauty –

    in one moment, the earth becomes beauty in place of pain.

    This is just great… ❀

    Much love,
    David

  2. You are so right about the healing power of dance, and also that the beat to this song is infectious.

    Your san san is seamless, and the imagery, as David noted, is vivid and magical, reflecting our connection to the earth. (K)
