We machined onward,
trying to ignore the tempest behind us,
and before us,
and all around,
entired in a mounting whirlwind.
The outlook tabled against us,
peaced together uncertainly by those afraid of peace,
because it's easier to fear
than to love.
Only later,
would history tell
who footed the bill
and who industried the plot
but not
who opened their hearts,
the impossibles possibled
when we chose to see
the course.
I wrote this poem for the Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #131 at the Skeptic’s Kaddish which was provided by Melissa this time around. She asked us to do the following:
Prompt
- Write a poem in any form, no more than 40 lines;
- Take a handful (5) of the words in the table below and use them in your poem as verbs;
- You may combine a word with a hyphen and another word that is a verb if you wish.
- Examples:
- I abouted him now more than ever before.
- The autumn wind leaf-flooded the road.
Table of words
| about | herself | peace |
| because | high | possible |
| camera | how | science |
| car | industry | seven |
| dark | itself | six |
| despite | late | south |
| entire | machine | speech |
| foot | money | toward |
| former | nice | two |
| heart | other | yes |

Yeah. Let’s get possibling. You’ve got a powerful poem here.

Sarah, I really love this poem! Your imagery is so vivid, and the way you explore the struggle between fear and love is powerful. It’s a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we open our hearts.
