Time is never wasted
when passed in tranquil places,
the whisper of grass and,
underfoot, rich sand.
A breeze against our cheeks:
we could stay for weeks,
immovable against life's worries
a force against nature's hurries
I wrote this poem for Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #123 over at the Skeptic’s Kaddish. This week’s prompt was provided by Sally, who asks us to do the following:
- PROMPT: Compose anΒ ekphrasticΒ poemΒ inspired byΒ Winslow HomerβsΒ (1836 β 1910) painting of βBoys in a Pastureβ.
I really enjoy ekphrastic poetry because I tend to use an image or two to get myself started with any poem I write. I also recommend using images or photos to my composition students when we begin their narrative unit (this week!), so I guess it’s something I’m a fan of in many realms of writing. π

I like this one. It calls to mind those peaceful moments just enjoying being outside. Never a waste of time.
