Apple picking
Under sunshine and
Turning over the garden--
Utilizing the last
Mismatched veggies
Neglected in the weeds
Whistling winds and
Icicles shimmering
Next to the doorways, under eaves,
Turning to dripping puddles under sunlight
Effervescent melodies, sung together, joy
Remembered
Soft blooms of
Petals dancing alongside
Rivers playing,
Inviting life.
Nights grow shorter, days
Grow longer
Sparklers twinkle
Umbrellas wrinkle, packed away.
Melty
Memories shared,
Everyone there
Relaxing

I wrote this poem for Wea’ve Written Weekly prompt #130 at the Skeptic’s Kaddish. Diana provided this week’s prompt, which is as follows:
- Theme: The changing seasons;
- Form:Acrostic (the first letters of each line in each stanza spell out a given word);
- Four stanzas:
- One stanza for each of the four seasons – ‘autumn’, ‘winter’, ‘spring’, ‘summer’ (in any order);
- If you prefer to refer to any of the four seasons by other names, you may use those names in your poem instead.
- Four stanzas:
Today, I was so fortunate to be a part of a local writer’s retreat. It was a 12-hour retreat from morning to night with two meals provided, lots of dedicated writing time, an enthusiastic host, and a gifted guest writer, who provided a ton of great advice and prompts (speaking of acrostic poems, her most popular prompt today was an Abecedarian, a fantastic type of acrostic poem!).
I met many amazing and talented people, and I think I’m starting to find the in-person writing community that I need to keep myself accountable for a writing routine and to gather more feedback on my writing. It was fabulous, and oddly motivating, apparently, considering I’m staying up late writing even more after a 12-hour event dedicated to writing. 😁
At the retreat, I managed to write 4,500 words in a new sci-fi/thriller novel I’ve been bouncing around in my brain for a few weeks now but haven’t had the chance to start (have I mentioned I have 212 students this semester?!). I also wrote the first poem I’ve ever presented to a group of people before. I’ve presented flash fiction before a group several times during my MA program, but never a poem. It was well-received, and I had so much fun! I already told the fabulous host that I’m signing up for his next retreat in April. I love writing communities. ❤️

I love this poem and I’m thrilled that you’ve found a writing community that fits!
