Today we hold your hand
present in this moment;
time is only grains of sand
until we embrace its lament.
The river metaphor is overdone,
but watch its waves regardless,
learn love from the passing sun.
Gather strength as moments pass
beyond our circadian thought:
together, we read this scale of land,
repair the bridge past-wrought,
today we hold your hand.
Today, I joined in David’s W3 poetry prompt at the Skeptic’s Kaddish. Kerfe Roig provided these guidelines along with the kerf poem “Letting Go”:
- 16 lines or less;
- the first and last lines must be the same
You can read Kerfe’s poem here. “Letting Go” reminded me of the fragility of life and our movement through time. Last week, I walked the trail the borders the river in the image. I saw several police vehicles and a water recovery crew in the park, and I learned later about the water accident that had led to that response. My poem is a response to Kerfe’s poem, but also in honor of anyone in mourning.
Poignant, loving and evocative thoughts. I could feel the emotion and the love.

These lines are beautiful. There’s so much we can learn from nature or simply enjoy being in her company.
